I came back and read this today - Monday - and I sat here and pondered it for a bit. You know, Danielle, I think you gave the right response when asked about what your passion is. At least by the way my mind works. My passion is my writing...I couldn't exist without writing. I couldn't exist without my family and friends, either, but they're not a 'passion'...they're an every day blessing, an essential part of my existence. My 'passions' are what I love to DO...writing, gardening, reading, listening to music. It goes without saying my family is my Life Blood. Them, and my Heavenly Father.

I'm in agreement. I don't think there's anything wrong with having said "Photography" first. I would have said, "reading," followed by "gardening," but if someone had asked me what I love above all else I would have said, "family."

I came by earlier, left a comment on a different post, and got interrupted before I could leave another.
I won a book? How cool is that!? I was just wishing yesterday that I had something good to read. thank you!
I'll e-mail you with my snail mail address.
Thanks again!

I wish I were funny too! I think you are right sometimes we just have to make the choices for our passions to be more reflected in our lives and our families should be the the top of the list!
Blessings

Cut yourself some slack. Family and friends as passions are understood. When we are asked, we naturally revert to hobbies, interests etc. When I am asked, I will say writing, but I know that is comes way below God, family and friends. Don't fret over your first response. And don't feel quilty about loving to take pictures.

Introspective is good to read because it encourages us to look inside ourselves as well. I don't think you need to feel guilty about saying photography was your passion. If I'd been asked a question framed the same way about my passions I would have had a whole list and probably wouldn't have even mentioned my family. They are a given. They are part of me. Saying I'm passionate about my family would be like saying I'm passionate about my breasts. Well, maybe not exactly. ;-)

Now, if someone asked me "What or who do you love most?" I would, of course, say God, my family, my friends.

Don't beat yourself up. :-)

The next step is to stop agonizing and move on if you make a bad choice. I think that is harder than learning to make wise choices. :)

In your defense, I think you're being much too hard on yourself. Your photography truly enriches your experiences with your family and friends.

Because of your work in mental health, you might be interested in reading my great-grandmother's story -- "Winifred's Story". I originally posted it on my Bravenet journal but I can't remember if you've been a 'friend' long enough to have read it or not. I've copied it and posted it on my Blogspot site. Hope you have a good weekend, my friend. (((((HUG)))))
