Getting Organized

Photobucket

I do a lot of what it takes to run a household and a business online. I guess you could call me a ‘digital woman’. Although I am not a ‘card carrying’ member, I do rely extensively on the ‘free’ information that is provided through their fabulous website.

For example, being the OCD personality type that I am, I keep a “Household Notebook“. (I even have the old ‘cover’ that Organized Home had available for print when I got this idea from them years ago). This morning, while using it to balance the checkbook and pay various bills, I realized how complicated it was getting to use this notebook. All the scratch outs and arrows for changed and updated PINS/Passwords/UserId’s/Mailing Addresses/websites/etc. etc…it was like working my way through a maze. I finally broke down and decided it was time for a ‘re-do’. A new and improved version of my Household Notebook.

That’s where the Digital Women website comes in. I have always used their ‘free forms’ for my notebook (along with Organized Home). I love them. They work for me.

However, you do need to ‘refresh’ them more than every five years with more than hen scratches and arrows. Therefore, my afternoon is planned out.

  • Grocery Shopping
  • Updating ‘Household Notebook’

I find much comfort and satisfaction in being organized. Poor. But organized. That’s me.

What is your favorite organizing tool??? Inquiring OCD minds, like me, want to know.

P.S. Don’t forget to stop by Daily Photo to view the newest member of my front garden. It took me half the afternoon to figure out how to put the photos into a collage…it would make the effort seem worth it if you could stop by and ‘ooooh’ and ‘ahhhhh’ about it (grin).

Thanks for the links! I have already printed out some of the pages. (I carry a small 3-ring binder that has everything in it – notes, post ideas, passwords – you name it. I would be lost if I lost it.) =)

I have a Household Notebook, too! I used the ideas on Organized Home but did most of the stuff on the computer so it was easy to update rather than printing it out and writing it in by hand. I would lose my mind if my computer died. It has everything on it!

I am completely unorganized. It’s even a major undertaking to actually form a grocery list.

    Now I’m embarrassed.

I read this and I laugh at myself, because I was the OCD poster child when I first got married. Refolding laundry when people “helped”, fluffing pillows while my guests were sitting on the sofa, lists for everything imaginable. It was exhausing! And then one day, after being a sick with the flu for a week, I noticed that the sky didn’t fall! I realized that I could let go of a few things!

I have a new organizational tool thanks to my husband who bought me a MacBook. I love it! I use iCalendar to track all my appointments and to keep running lists, iPhoto to organize and share my digital images, iChat to keep in touch with my out of state relatives, and I love the STICKIES application that allows me to create brightly colore digital sticky notes on my desktop. :)

By the way, I wanted to stop by and let you know that I’ve got some free books up for grabs in my April Pay It Forward Book Exchange. Stop by for details on how to enter to win!

Lots and lots of notes–and a day planner. I’m the sort that gets a thrill from crossing things off a list!

I have a daytimer on my desk which I keep up to date and tick of things as they are done or move them to another day and I keep all other information on the back sheets of the daytimer, bank account numbers and passwords mostly. I also have a program I use in which I created several categories of items to remember. Internet passwords, emails, birthdays etc. Once a month I upload this file into online storage so should my computer crash or the house burn down I still can access my information. Also any photographs that are special to me I have scanned into my computer and also have stored them online.
I have a box by the bed with all our most important papers in it, so if ever we had to get out quickly I only have to grab it.

I don’t know if I can improve on that. I can mostly lay my hands on anything but of course there has been the occasional think I have filed away in ‘a safe place’ never to found again.

That’s a neat site! I keep telling myself someday I’ll be organized like that. Maybe. I still hope. :-)
