It’s mid-morning and I am contemplating how to spend the last day of spring break. At the beginning of this week Miss Sam and I had made a pact to not make any appointments this week. I wondered if we could do it. We were 99.9% successful. The only obligation we had to fulfill this week was getting her new lenses put into her glasses.
As I look back over our week spent 99.9% exclusively at home, I must say that I loved. loved. loved it.
I did accomplish some things academically - I developed a curriculum for the month of April - which was my goal for how I spent some of my down time this week.
Sam’s homeschooling curriculum this month will revolve around
- learning about all the presidents (it is the first ‘unit’ in our exploration of the Election Process - developed by me - with a little help from here) since this is an election year.
- learning about how we can help ’save’ our planet (it is the first ‘unit’ in our exploration of the Environment -developed by me - with a little help from here) since April 22nd is Earth Day.
- learning about Japanese food (it is the first ‘unit’ in our exploration of Japanese culture - developed by me - with a little help from here) since Japanese culture is one of Miss Sam’s passion.
I also accomplished setting about my dream of having a garden. I am so proud of this endeavor. You can see my latest project this week over at my Daily Photo.
Today Miss Sam and I are going to set about finishing our painting of the front living room (see photo above). I began my home ‘makeover’ last year when I tore down three layers of wallpaper in Miss Sam’s bathroom. That’s when ‘painting’ fever began. Once the bathroom was done - the hallway needed to be done - once the hallway was done - the foyer needed to be done - once the foyer was done - the living area needed to be done. So there you go. We will finish up on the living area today. After that - on to the master bedroom.
I’m off to wake up the sleeping princess and get started on our day. Her day will include not just helping with the painting but also making enchiladas for lunch and a cake for dessert tonight. That falls under Home Economics 101 - which I failed at miserably (I received a grade of D) when I was in middle school. Which is why she is making lunch and baking the cake (grin).

Woohoo!! Go you. BTW–the library has some great cultural cookbooks for kids that have all kinds of great recipes and info on the culture to go with it. Japanese was one of our favorites.
Sounds like a great week! I got two stressful “chores” out of the way this week so I’m calling it a good week.
Oooo… what time’s dinner? Wow, I wish I could get that much accomplished in a month, let alone a week! Good going Mom!
Girl you are SO ambitious!! but that painting thing..one thing does lead to another..I’m about to go there myself! LOL
Spring break at home….ummmm..perfect!
Well…for not having any appointments, you sure have been busy! The curriculum sounds fun.

It really does sound like you had fun. Good for you!
It sounds like you had a good week. I like your topics of study.
We did painting like that too. Now I want to start all over again.
Not a good time for that though.
Danielle Says It Is So Great To Hear From You: I can’t express how wonderful it was to read your comment this evening!!! I think of you often and most definitely are keeping you and your family in my prayers. You are so awesome Heidi, specially made by God to do wonderful things!!! I’m so glad you stopped by.
It sounds like you had a productive Spring Break. Hope you are able to get started on you garden soon. We may be moving this summer, so I think that we are going to just plant a few vegetables in containers this year.
