A Simple Woman’s Daybook ~ May 26

Outside My Window… I am watching our resident woodpecker stopping by for breakfast and a refreshing drink of water from the just filled bird bath that is in the middle of my ‘work in progress’ butterfly garden.

I am thinking…why does the neighbor dog continue to bark after I call our dog Marble’s inside. Do you think she is telling me to let him come back outside and play?

I am thankful for…the sacrifices that have been made by the individuals and their families to keep our country safe. I hope that all of you will observe Memorial Day by flying your flag at half-staff and participate in the national moment of remembrance at 3:00 pm today, Eastern Standard time.

From the kitchen…We enjoyed our annual Memorial Day celebration yesterday with our very dear friends. In years past we usually go to the beach in early evening to enjoy a picnic while the sun begins to set. This year we decided to be a bit more traditional and had a cookout at our home. We enjoyed grilled burgers and hotdogs, my famous homemade beans (made with lots of brown sugar), Kraft Mac and Cheese (the kiddos barf when I mention ‘home made’), and my friend (Miss Sue)’s unbelievable hot potato salad. For dessert we had a choice between cheesecake and/or chocolate pie. Miss Sue is the best cook this side of the Mason-Dixon line. I want to go live with her.

I am wearing…my pj’s and my ‘decades old’ favorite robe. After all, it is still morning where I live and on weekends and holidays I don’t ordinarily get dressed until well after lunch time. It’s my favorite ‘Danielle’ tradition (grin).

I am creating…the Christmas scrapbook for 2007. Once I finish the ‘Getting Ready for Santa’ and ‘Christmas Day’ pages I can begin on Miss Sam’s Age Twelve scrapbook. Yes, I know she is thirteen (believe me I know). However, I am a year behind due to my inability to keep my digital photos organized. I worked on them this past week and am ready to get caught up. Go me!

I am going...to scrapbook all day once I finish this post and clean up the patio and the kitchen from the cookout last night.

I am readingRemember When by Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb and Walt Disney: The Triumph of The American Imagination by Neal Gabler. In Remember When, Nora Roberts brings in J.D. Robb’s character Eve Dallas - which I love. The Walt Disney book finally came out in paperback and I had a 40% coupon for Borders so I indulged myself and bought it last week while in the bigger bigger city. I absolutely love Disney!!

I am hoping…not to get sidetracked today by the ’shoulds’ and ‘oughts’ so I can scrap all day until my back and shoulders can’t stand it anymore.

I am hearing…the TV coming on out in the main living room. My husband must be awake.

Around the house…you will not find any photos of people other than me, my husband and Miss Sam. I am certain that there is a Freudian reason for this but it is a holiday and I am on a ‘mental’ vacation also.

One of my favorite things…is to come out here to my office when everyone else is asleep and watch the birds and squirrels eat and drink and celebrate the dawning of a new day while I write.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: taking family members where they need to go this week in the bigger bigger city. My father-in-law has his chemo and Miss Sam has her therapy. I will also be wrapping up my Head Start school year. I have to finalize all my treatment plans to document that all behavior goals were implemented and my assessment on the progress made for each individual client. I have to work some fun into this week somewhere. Perhaps another 40% coupon will find it’s way into my email inbox before I head out to the bigger bigger city.

Here is a picture thought I am sharing...

Ooo, I like this. This is exactly the sort of Monday thing I have been looking for. :)

I enjoy watching the birds and squirrels, too. The birds are quite frisky lately. We should see some nest building soon.

That’s fine if you want to post on Tuesday. I’m thinking that next week will probably be the last time I do the meme for a few months. A lot of people seem to be taking a summer break from homeschooling. I think that I will, too.

I really like this idea… I may have to ‘borrow’ it. Love the photo!

I always wanted to do a scrapbook. I have all of the materials for over a year and never got around to doing it.

Our photos around the house are of the kids, grandbabies, and Dear Hubby. None of me. Must be something Freudian there too, eh?
