My Daybook ~ June 16

Outside My Window…I can see the birdbath overfilled with wonderful refreshing rainwater. The Florida rainy season has FINALLY arrived and what was once brown is now turning a luscious green.

I am thinking…I hope the lawn guy comes soon. With all these afternoon rainshowers both the weeds (of which we have more) and the grass are growing like crazy. Which Marbles is thrilled about because one of his most favorite things to do in the late afternoon is graze the front yard while Mr. J. and I talk about our day. He is a herding breed so I guess that’s what they do. I can remember when Miss Sam was a toddler, Marbles would ‘herd’ her if he knew I was trying to ‘catch’ her. Even to this day, he will resume his ‘herding’ mode when I call her name. Funny.

I am also thinking about…putting myself on a ‘computer usage schedule’ like I do Miss Sam. After I wrote this post, I gave much thought to how my recreational computer usage eats into my creative time for more tangible pursuits (thanks Linda for giving me much to think about). I use the computer for my lecture updates and also for my photography business and writing pursuits in addition to my leisurely strolls through the blogosphere. So I am thinking of working on my computer time management skills.

I am thankful for…my husband’s family. I am no longer standing in the outer circle filled with anger and jealousy as I was in the beginning years of our marriage. They are my family and for that I am more thankful than words can express.

From the kitchen…I actually made it into the kitchen TWICE yesterday and ‘cooked’ as best I know how. Since it was Father’s Day I made Mr. J’s most favorite meal ‘Breakfast Pizza‘. Then for an early dinner we had burritos. They weren’t as good as Moe’s but what with food money going to gas, eating out is not an option any longer. Do I hear an amen???

I am wearing…guess.

I am creating…clean closets and drawers. On Friday I began my annual summer de-clutter marathon. I am still not finished. Next is the garage.

I am going…to stay home today until it is time to leave to teach in the bigger city this evening. God instructs us to look at the trials in our lives as blessings. For me, I look at this gas crisis as a chance for Americans to get back to where they belong….at home…with their families. As many of us re-work our ‘travel’ routines I wholeheartedly believe that many of us are spending more time at home and getting reacquainted with what is truly important.

I am reading…the third book, Red Lily, in Nora Loft’s trilogy “In The Garden”. Having worked my way halfway through Susan Wittig Albert’s China Bayle’s herbal mystery series (a series involving an herb shop owner and herb grower), I have come to realize I love fiction books that involve gardening. Can anyone recommend some good reading involving the gardening them?? Once I finish Red Lily I plan on picking up where I left off with China Bayles with the book ‘Love Lies Bleeding’.

I am hoping…that the gardening fairy will work on my backyard garden. It has come to a screeching halt. The weather is getting too hot and when it cools down it’s because we are in the middle of Florida’s famous mid-afternoon thundershowers….and the plot where I intend to have my butterfly garden is a pool of mud. I have researched though, and made a list of the bulbs I plan on planting in the fall. A small step forward but a step forward nonetheless.

I am hearing…the air conditioning kick on. Like I said. It’s hot here now, even in the early mornings - a tad humid you might say.

Around the house…I have stacks of gardening books that I have accumulated from my thrift shop excursions, a huge basket filled with the afghan I am working on, bags from our recent shopping trip to WalMart yesterday that need to be emptied and put away….and inside one of them is this. Oh my, I can’t wait to use it!!!!

One of my favorite things…is to sit outside with my husband when he comes home from work and talk about our day. With the recent thundershowers we have had to move our chairs inside the garage (because of the high winds that come with the rains the porch gets drenched) which may have me participating in Tackle it Tuesday, as I attempt to tackle our long neglected garage.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: Wrapping up Summer A Semester (last day of class is on Wednesday) and gearing up for Summer B (first day of class is next Wednesday). A trip to the library. Cleaning the garage (ack!!!). Re-organizing and re-claiming (for the creative endeavors I enjoy) my home office now that I have made the decision to not counsel anymore.

Here is picture thought I am sharing

It’s funny to me to see so much in common in others, even though every person and family is so different. I found myself shaking my head in understanding as I could have made this same post. I had to laugh about the Wal-Mart bags too, because I do the same thing usually. I have back injuries from a car wreck and shopping wipes me out. If no one else gets to put stuff up before me, they will sit there.

I am thankful for my husband’s family also. They (and he) are the best thing that every happened to me, besides my kids.

How interesting about your dog being in “herding” mode! That would be fun to see. I am thinking similar thoughts about my recreational computer time, or have been thinking that lately. I wonder how much more productive my time could be if I limited my playtime better. Thanks for sharing a lovely Daybook.

    Blessings,
    Kym

Its hot here in the early morning too. No more sitting outside with morning coffee which I like to do. We got a little break this weekend after the rain.
You have many plans for the week.

Danielle, It was so good reconnecting with you on the phone the other day. I am sorry it has been so long since we spoke. I was so low and you encouraged me knowing all to well that I am going through. I am going to follow your advice because I think it is the best advice. I am loving this website and will participate on a regular basis. God bless you!

What a lovely post! As someone who is very careful about cyberspace time management because, like you, I do other tasks on my computer in addition to blogging, it is a pleasure to drop by and read something that’s so newsy and uplifting.
