My Daybook ~ June 23

Outside My Window…the sun is making it’s way up over the trees across the street. We have a leaded glass front door and as the sun begins to rise it sends streams of ‘designer’ light into our front living room. (Which I finally finished painting a month or so ago.) However, I have yet to tackle the entry way (where I took down some columns). I need to sand down where I uprooted the columns and repaint the ‘pony’ wall. Plus the baseboards all need to re-painted due to me not ‘blue taping’ when I painted the walls (grin).

I am thinking…of writing an ‘open’ letter to my sisters and my niece. They have been harassing me with nasty comments, threats and emails. These comments and threats are mired in where they are on their journey and echoes of only hearing one side of a complicated issue.

I am thankful for…the ability to make a living at what I love. Someone made the comment a week or two ago ‘Danielle, I believe you would teach even if they stopped paying you’. Teaching was not a profession that I would have chosen. However, God knew where He wanted me and certainly fit all the pieces together to get me there.

From the kitchen…we had homemade burgers last night with my super duper lots of brown sugar baked beans. No. The burgers were not done on the grill. We still haven’t cleaned it since our Memorial day cookout (eeewwwww gross!).

I am wearing…pajama pants this morning. My long robe is in the laundry. Since we keep the evening temp in our home at a cool 65 degrees (because of Miss Sam’s eczema) my home office is quite chilly in the morning. My feet are cold but I hate. hate. hate. socks and/or slippers.

I am creating…Miss Sam’s curriculum for the Fall. However, we have ‘summer’ school and so she has already begun working on her Science. I have the ‘structured’ portion of the ‘curriculum’ under control (God bless LifePac). The main focus now is to integrate her interests into her ‘electives’. I am finally comfortable with teaching her at home. It was the best decision for us. Not just for Miss Sam but for us as a family.

I am also in the process of creating (replenishing and sorting through) our Hurricane Preparedness Supply Kit. It’s that time of year.

I am going already have…made the The Whippoorwill Chronicles a private blog. If you would like access to this personal blog please email me at dbeverlyhills@gmail.com. For those of you that have already made a request, your name has been added to the access list.

I am reading…Galatians and Ephesians. I don’t do well in group Bible studies. I get overwhelmed. Especially when I attempt to do a Beth Moore study. However, I absolutely love the Life Application Bible Studies. They are done in the New Living Translation with tons of study notes and my favorite – personal questions that give much pause for thought:

  • You were saved to live for God. Does your life reflect your gratitude for being rescued?
  • Have you transferred your loyalty from this world to Christ?
  • Do you spend your life trying to please everybody?
  • Whose approval are you seeking – others’ or God’s?
  • When people look at you, do they recognize that God has made changes in your?

Those are just the questions from Galatians 1: 1-24.

I am hoping…that the students enrolled in my Summer B class share the same wonderful dynamics that my Summer A class demonstrated. They were just AWESOME!!

I am hearing…the garage door close as my husband leaves for work.

Around the house…After loading up about six bags for Goodwill last week, I have pretty much sorted through the clutter. We may be dusty but we are certainly clutter free. Well almost. I still have the junk drawer (this is an every other month project) and the four drawer file cabinet in my office to go sort through.

One of my favorite things…is going to the library. Although I have a full bookcase of books that I have yet to read, I have to be ‘in the mood’. I am really in the mood to read Susan Wittig Albert’s Beatrix Potter series. I think that Miss Sam will enjoy this also. So I will be heading out to my favorite place today….the library.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: I have pretty much cleared my appointment book for the summer. Other than teaching Wednesday evening and the Fishing Club meeting, we have no ‘plans’. My husband is taking a few days off to spend some time with his Dad. Miss Sam and I hope to go swimming. However, the pool hours are from 1:00 to 5:00 and this is the time when the very reliable Florida thundershowers make their daily appearance. Oh, and we are considering rescuing another dog so we will be researching the shelters in our area this week for the ‘perfect’ pet. Other than that we have begun ‘the lazy days of summer’ round these parts.

Here is picture thought I am sharing…

I’m reading Ephesians too. Yesterday at church, we discussed the repetitive “in Christ” within Ephesians. I’m thinking about it today.

Write that letter. I can’t stand joy thieves with a bad attitude. Pray for them. Their hearts will change.

I need to hurry up and get our hurricane preparations done as well.

Hugs for the issues with family. Don’t let them drag you down.
Your Bible studies sound great. I have done many alone but haven’t tried the ones you mentioned. I do like the New Living Translation.
    Have a great week,

Read this this morning before grocery shopping, had it sitting open all day now too tired to reread and remember what I wanted to say.

    Danielle,
I love reading these on Mondays. It makes me feel like I’m “up to date” on what you’ve been doing. Tell your sisters and niece to “get a life.”

I been reading “Poetic Medicine,” a wonderful book about poem-writing and the pieces I read this evening about families made me think of you and your family. It sounds like you’re handling it the best way you can!

    Hugs from L.A.
