Lazy Days of Summer

Photobucket

As summer begins to unfold I am finding myself at odds with much of this ‘free’ time. For an individual that thrives on routine it can be unsettling. Now I’m not complaining. I’m just saying. The lazy days of summer are challenging. They have no rhyme or reason.

The word of the season, for me, needs to be ‘relax’.

  • Sit and watch that ENTIRE Lifetime movie.
  • Settle in on the porch with the first book in the romance series ‘Lakeshore Chronicles’.
  • Take a nap in the middle of the afternoon.
  • Eat cereal for supper.
  • Don’t go to WalMart.
  • Play with my photo files with no particular project in mind.
  • Take another nap.

How about you?

  • What ‘one’ word would you use to describe what summer means to you?
  • What do you ‘do’ when you ‘do’ nothing?

I agree…the nonroutine of summer is a challenge (see today’s post from me ;-))

When I do “nothing” it usually looks like:
    *not leaving the house
    *stitching or quilting
*playing on the computer without feeling guilty (like that ever happens!)

I am the opposite– I HATE being busy and LOVE being able to relax, read when I want to, play when I want to, paint when I want to. And right now busy is the word. My goodness. Mailing off your package today–the kids added a few things for Miss Sam as well–I say this as a warning because Essie threw in a Sailor Moon book that she LOVES and wants Miss Sam to have.

I love this description! It’s the very essence of what summer is. :)

I’m like Heather in my love of unstructured time, but I know and raise people who are the opposite. :)Embrace your love of structure! Endure the unstructured time until you create the structure you need. And if you can’t seem to create it, it will return when classes start up again. :)

    Have a great day.

I never do this (call attention to my blog) while commenting. In reply to your question, I wanted you to read my latest post. Summer means light to me. Here is the post:

No relaxing for me! I’m more busy in the summer then I am the rest of the time of the year.

Summer is hectic… the boy is home from school, so a lot of the day is spent wondering what sort of trouble he is getting into (he’s really a good kid, I’m just a chronic worrier). If I can do nothing… read, read, read - all day long, while still in my PJs, in bed.

Funny, my anti spam word is slow. Summer for me this year is kidless and it is nice not coming home to a mess or having to fix supper at a certain time though I miss my boys. But, I too find doing nothing a challenge. I am trying hard to rest and be still, but it makes me feel unsettled. I want to be doing something and I have a hard time justifying relaxing as doing something. Perhaps if I put it on my To Do list?
