My Daybook ~ June 30

Outside My Window…I am watching our new puppy Snickers playing in the yard. Mr. J found an ad in the paper advertising Aussie Shepherd miniatures. After a few days of playing phone tag we were finally able to find out about what they had available. Although they had two litters of new puppies, they also had a four month old standard Aussie that had not found a home yet. I asked why this particular puppy had not found a home and learned that she has not been ’socialized’, is ’skittish’, ‘afraid of people’, etc. etc. As I was learning more about this little girl I found every similarity between her and Marbles. Marbles was EXACTLY the same way.

When we first went to see Marbles he looked at us and headed the other way. He did not want me to hold him. It was a battle to get him in the car and take him home. But take him home we did and he has been THE BEST dog!!!

When they first brought Snickers out I knew she was the one. Then when they put her down for us to ‘meet’ her, she slipped out of her collar and ran (deja vu). Now that she has been with us for almost three days Snickers is moving forward to being Marbles’ clone every single day. She is awesome!!!

For those that have asked, we named her Snickers because of her coloring. She looks just like a Snickers bar (including the caramel). That’s how Marbles got his name ~ he looks just like a Marble cake. Do you think we may have food issues (grin)?

I am thinking…how much potential this puppy has despite her present insecurities. How people could not see past the exterior to what was within. We do the same with people and I am thinking about how many opportunities are missed for fulfilling friendships and/or relationships because we don’t allow ourselves to get beyond the initial first impressions.

I am thankful for…a husband that looked beyond what I presented to the world.

From the kitchen…I made my famous spaghetti this weekend with plenty of leftovers. As I mentioned before, my two peas in a pod like their ’spaghetti’ in the form of rigatoni noodles ~ which I hate. My sister-in-law was coming over for dinner and mentioned that she liked angel hair pasta. So I thought I would give it a try. My peas ate spaghetti made with rigatoni and my sister-in-law and I ate ’spaghetti’ with angel hair pasta. I love. love. love. it!!!! Try new things even if it means making up two pots of pasta ~ it was sooooo worth it.

I am wearing…pajama pants instead of my usual robe in case I need to head out to the backyard and rescue Snickers from the various ‘things’ in the yard she is finding to ‘play’ with.

I am creating…a second cup of coffee (decaf) with that wonderfully delicious creamer ‘Hazelnut’. Yum.

I am going…to spend a few hours with my father-in-law this morning while my mother-in-law goes out and runs a few errands.

I am reading…The Lakeside Chronicles. I just finished the first in the series Summer at Willow Lake. Although I am not much of a romance buff, I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading the second book in the series Winter Lodge. After this series I am going to research the many ‘gardening’ fiction books that you, my wonderful readers, have recommended.

I am hoping…that I can continue to get a handle on these panic attacks that have increased since March. I tried the ‘better living through chemistry’ again, but like the first time, it made me feel worse than I felt on my ‘worse’ days non-medicated.

I am hearing…my favorite radio broadcasters ~ Bob and Sheri ~ talk about how these men who are married to beautiful women get caught up in affairs. But like a reader called in and stated ~ just because you are beautiful doesn’t mean you are able to keep a relationship together. Relationships take commitment, patience, time…time…time…and a heart that is unselfish.

Around the house…there is complete chaos. We were slugs yesterday. I had made SOS for breakfast and then that is about it. That’s how I got to finish my book!!

One of my favorite things…is teaching. I am looking forward to the second day of Summer B tonight.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: Continue on working on ’socializing’ Snickers and Miss Sam (giggle). The plan for Snickers includes lots of playtime with family members. The plan for Miss Sam is swimming at the community pool with other kids.

Here is picture thought I am sharing…

    Snickers is beautiful!

Your package has been sent, btw.

Sigh. I know the next thing but, sigh, people kept interrupting one next thing to give me another.:) The omega 3 did the trick though–I had not been taking it and boy does it make a difference.

I love your line of thanks to your husband.
Just a thought about panic attacks . . . The heat sometimes makes them worse for me. Staying cool really helps. I take the meds as soon as it comes on and it knocks them down. The more I try to “wait and see” causes the next one to be greater than the first. Take care. Enjoy the new doggie! I am jealous!

    Danielle,
If it’s Monday, it must be your Daybook. Love your new dog. When we’d had our terrier Spike for five years, we got a black lab puppy we called Murphy. The day she came home, Spike ran around the yard for hours, and I thought, “Oh my god, what have I done?” Then Murphy licked him on the mouth and he was taken with her.

She died last December, after nine of the very best years. Spike mourns her as much as we do!

Danielle, I love it…I am with you on the whole spaghetti with rigatoni IS NOT spaghetti!!! I like mine with thin spaghetti I do like angel hair with a tomato topping but not a heavy sauce…Kris thinks I’m weird when I talk about the *wrong* noodles/pasta for a particular dish….

Oooooooo, a puppy. Reading about him has helped me a lot since I am currently having a bad moment of over tiredness/overdose on glucose/crash from said overdose/had a long fight over nap time with my son. Animals are great comfortors!
Angel hair is a fav here too.

What a beautiful looking dog you have. She’s going to be a great addition to your family.

I like wearing my pajama pants and a T shirt around the house.

Congratulations on your new puppy! I liked what you said about going beyond first impressions - so true. I’m glad you enjoyed your pasta. I should try that kind. These Daybooks are fun. Come by and see mine!
