My Daybook ~ August 25

Outside My Window…the sun is shining!! For the first time in over seven days. I always wanted to live in the great state of Washington, yet having endured rain for the last seven days I do believe that I would much rather just visit.

I am thinking…about finishing up the rest of the grocery shopping this morning.

I am thankful that…I have learned to control my emotions more appropriately. There were several moments this past weekend that I so wanted to verbalize the tempest that was swirling in my brain’s limbic system (the seat of all our emotions). The benefits of anger management (in the long run) are immeasurable ~ however ~ in the moment, it can all be quite frustrating.

From the kitchen…not much cooking going on as usual. There is of course the ‘groceries’ from our trip to Sam’s Warehouse (similar to Costco) that need to be put away. These are the ‘standard’ items that I purchase there. Many times you will find that the items can be found cheaper elsewhere but these items seem to always be a ‘good’ deal. A note of caution ~ you must go in there with a list and also a comparable price comparison list of the items you buy most frequently or you will definitely fall into the ‘buy in bulk’ black hole.

I am wearing…my favorite robe as usual. However, I will be getting showered and dressed as soon as this post is published in my favorite t-shirt, jeans, and Croc sandals.

I creating…a ‘template’ so that Miss Sam can create her study guides for her upcoming Unit Tests on all her subjects. Good study habits is the key to understanding the material you will be tested on rather than opening up your brain…cramming it all in…and praying along the way that 99% of what you ‘dumped’ into short term memory will be on the exam.

From the learning rooms…we are ‘wrapping up’ Unit One for all subjects. We are also reading the book ‘George Washington Carver: Inventor and Naturalist’ from the Heroes of the Faith series. I say ‘we’ because this book is going to be a ‘read aloud’ book. I do this from time to time to ensure that Miss Sam is ‘reading’ and not just ‘skimming’. I also do this to ‘tag’ the words that Miss Sam doesn’t understand and we can add to her vocabulary list.

I am going…to try out a new church this coming Sunday.

I am still reading Blues in the Night by Rochelle Krich. I am really enjoying it so far and I like the idea that it is a series. Which I already got the second in the series from the library. However, a colleague has loaned me the book A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier which I hope to start later on during the week.

I am hoping…that Miss Sam willingly goes to the Teen Night at a local church this coming Sunday. She went last night and said she had a good time and ‘probably’ will go back. Miss Sam doesn’t realize there is no ‘probably’ about it…she will be giving it another try.

Around the house…things are fairly quiet. The dogs are tired from getting up every two to three hours during the night so they are sleeping.

One of my favorite things… is scrapbooking (I have mentioned this before…no??). This week I committed to creating at least three two page spreads a day. I would love to do this for hours but my back won’t tolerate it.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week:

  • Getting into the ‘meat and potatoes’ of my psychology class.
  • Scheduling my Head Start clients (once I get that salary increase in writing ~ although my request was ‘approved’ I want to see it in writing ~ call me ‘cautious’.
  • Heading to the bigger, bigger city for another session of EMDR therapy. I am very encouraged by the slight progress I am making after only two sessions.
  • Contacting two of the 4-H clubs in our area to explore possible opportunities for Miss Sam.
  • Visiting Rymer Ranch to see if Miss Sam would be interested in learning about horses. She really enjoyed her visit with Taco the horse a week ago and I would like to pursue this if it is something she is interested in.

Here is picture thought I am sharing

You are SO FUNNY–don’t forget to use the reading aloud time as a time to be with her and get to know her better. :) It is a great family/relationship thing to do. (You sound like you are in professor mode is why I mention it.)

Oh there are so many things I would like to comment about, but I’ll just choose a couple . . .

I read A Long Way Gone and thought it was *great*. Great as in a very interesting read, not the true content – that’s sad.

I love to paper scrapbook as well, but I was just converted to digital scrapping. Not much headway has been had, but I love it so far.

Scrapbooking is something I’ve always wanted to attempt, but I have so many other crafting projects underway, I think Doc would probably object…loudly! ;)

My youngest brother lives in Washington State. At the end of a 2-week trip to Alaska, Doc and I spent four days in WA in early July – no rain, just sun every day. We were fortunate. We did drive up to a mountain to play in the snow – while wearing shorts!!

I had to smile…I’m wearing my Crocs, too…I love ‘em!

I so enjoy your weekly daybook shares. Seeing your picture of garbage bags reminds me I’m low! LOL

You sound so positive about trying a new church. I hate even the thought of it. There are things at the Springs we’re not thrilled about like the long drive and some recent changes to a more rock-concert atmosphere, but the thought of starting over is daunting!

So nice to read what you are up to. I have to get into the swing of blogging again after summer.
