Although this was the question for last Friday from Ilax Studio, I like it:
What would you do for fun if you had to give up TV, movies, electronic games and the internet?
Mr. John and I have made the decision to decrease Miss Sam’s time on the computer this year. A wonderful result of that decision occurred yesterday.
Miss Sam came out of her room, with book in hand, and offered to read to me out loud. It was wonderful. It took me back to the days before she even knew what a PSP/Gameboy/Computer was. We would spend our days reading, swimming, playing Sorry (my favorite game). Enjoying the simple things.
I’m looking forward to what today’s ‘unplugged’ time will bring.
How about you? What would you do?
Today’s Around the Square: I am unsure how I ‘stumbled’ on this particular blog, but I am glad that I did. I have not been reading I’m annb…and This Is My Life long, however I immediately felt a ‘kindred spirit’ from the first post. There are so many common threads for all us that I am sure you will enjoy your visit.
Today I am grateful for: being able to go to the grocery store and being able to purchase what we need.
Today I am going to simplify my life: by trying to find a ‘card case’ for all those miscellaneous cards (library/Borders/Sams) in my purse that I am unable to put my hands on when I need them.

I would read more and I would need to get a newspaper so I could get my weather and news. I would miss the connections I have on the internet though. Would not miss tv much!
I’d get a lot more reading done, for certain. Probably spend more time outside when it was nice. Spend more money on coloring books.
Danielle,
Thank you for the kind comments. I don’t think it is coincidence that we found each other’s blogs! I love reading your posts and am glad that you visit often!
If all electronics were taken (hooray! – some days), board games would be #1 on my list. Jody and I play board games now with Elizabeth and Michael. Their favorite – Monopoly (with the debit cards), but my new favorite is BuzzWord! We also like to play Spades and Yahtzee.
I can just imagine how quiet things would be! Ahh – the peace!

read, play one of the tons of board games in our bench, read, make a jigsaw puzzle, read…. well, you get the picture!
I would definitely read more. I have tried for years to get my family to participate in the No TV Week… never got them to even try. I could turn off the tube, and never miss it.
I don’t watch TV or movies and don’t play video games, so would only miss the Internet. Though I have gotten quite dependent upon it, if I did not have it, I would get a lot more glass work done, probably reading and writing as well.
While I have nothing negative to say about your decision I am glad you are not my Mom. I would miss my computer time. It is on from morning to night although I am not on it all the time.
Danielle,
I have given you an award – see it here. I love visiting and reading your posts. You inspire me to do better in my life and to believe in myself. Thank you for being so willing to share with those of us who need it!
Oooo, ooo I love this (and your new site name too btw)! We cut the TV cable nearly 2 years ago and have never looked back nor regretted it. We do still have some movies and electronic games though. Ironically, we found movie watching dropped instead of increasing as I was expecting. But the use of the Wii and its family games took the #1 spot. Although the favorite thing still is the old fashioned board games we now have time to enjoy together. It’s been so much easier and different than I expected, that I’m confident we could easily lose the movies and electronic games and still be quite happy. Although if you talk about my internet and computer I’ll become MOST possessive!!! LOL
Hugs,
Holly
