One does not discover new lands without consenting to lose sight of the shore for a very long time

In January I began excavating teeny tiny pieces of the authentic me and weaving them into a tapestry of contentment. Here are some threads of wisdom during the month of February that I continue to contemplate, implement, and perhaps in the coming days….write about:
- invest quality time in yourself
- take creative excursions and be sure to take notes
- to make your life your own you have to know what you truly love
- have some small pleasure to look forward to every day
- always look at yourself through the mirror of you on your ‘good days’
- let God illuminate your path by turning on His switch
- don’t try to remake yourself into something you’re not, just try making the best of what God made
- turn away from the world towards your own happiness to explore/recognize what makes you truly happy
- rest
- remake your personal world
- restore your natural sense of rhythm to your world
- trust your own sense of style
- take a risk a day
- carve out time to dream
- differentiate between needs and wants
- don’t be afraid to ask God
- do something out of the ordinary
- slay the dragons (fears) in your mind
- each life experience reveals glimmers of our true selves
- each day you create yourself anew through choice
- the details of our lives make a difference
- everything can be a springboard for inspiration
- priorities need to be flexible and change as we do
- restore a sense of reverence to your daily affairs
- create a sacred spot filled with objects that are meaningful to you
- ask for God’s grace every day
Today’s ‘Around the Square’: is Florida Cracker from Pure Florida. He takes the most magnificent pictures but not only that….he makes the most fabulous meals but not only that…he can tell a tale that keeps you coming back for more but not only that….he lives in the same area I do and I am able to learn so.so.so much about all sorts of things that are native to this place I call home. Go tell him hello…you will not be disappointed.
Today I am grateful for: my hairdresser!!! She is such a kindred spirit. When I walked into her salon today it was merely for my usual color and trim. However, staying true to some of the lessons I am learning while weaving my tapestry….I decided to take a risk today and explore my own personal sense of style. I didn’t get a trim….I got a cut. I didn’t get color…I got color and ‘peek-a-boo’ mahogany highlights. It was so much fun!!!

Here is the cut.

Here are the highlights.
They are kind of hard to see as they are ‘peek-a-boo’ which means they are done ‘underneath’ so every now and then they ‘peek’ out.
Today I am going to simplify my life: by letting the laundry and dishes go yet another day.

I really like the new do. Very nice.
LOVE the hair.
I like the haircut a lot, Danielle! I’ve been growing my hair out for ages, or so it feels like. It’s funny, tho…I’d had it quite short and it seemed to take FOREVER for it to grow to just below ear length. Since then it’s taken off like crazy and is almost down to my shoulders! I have it pulled back in a ponytail most of the time to keep it away from little fingers, but haven’t quite settled on a ‘style’ yet for more formal times. I like how Emmylou Harris has hers styled…long and loose and flowing but shaped up nicely. My mom used to always say long hair on an older woman aged her, but I’m not sure I agree with that anymore. At a family funeral last year, the wife of one of Dear Hubby’s cousins had her white hair swept up into a loose but oh-so-chic looking topknot with all kinds of tendrils hanging down…it looked SO good! And she’s like me, right around my age, and premature gray/white from back in her 20s where I was in my 30s. I think it all boils down to what each of us is comfortable with, don’t you think? Just like fashion…if you’re not comfortable in it, no matter how expensive or stylish it is, it isn’t going to look right. Same with our hair, too, I’m thinkin’.
I love the haircut! It looks similar to Heather’s cut she gave herself a month or so ago. It is a nice shape!
I’m sorry to hear about all the sickness in your household this past week! I hope it all clears up and some sun shines in!
You look wonderful with your new cut/color. Nothing like a new style to boost a gal!
Great haircut! Totally fun! I am so afraid to mess with my hair.

Hugs,
Susan
I love your “Threads of Contentment and your new style and color! The cut looks great and I’ve always loved Peek-a-boo. Your list is so inspirational and really touches me. I can see ways that I could improve my contentment as well.
