On Becoming Mama

Sam's Ultrasound

This is the letter I wrote to Miss Sam on the day she was born…the day I became a Mama:

3-13-1995

My Dearest Samantha,

Today is your birthday sweetie pie!!! At this moment you are snoozin’ after a nurse showed me how to feed, burp and change you! What a rookie your mama is!!

They admitted your Mama to the hospital this morning at 7:30 am after they made her walk around the hospital for two hours to dialate more. After that Daddy and Grandma W. coached Mama for 9 1/2 hours in order to give birth to you. They were the most wonderful coaches in the world! Your Daddy is the best husband and Daddy in the world!!

You truly are a miracle baby – I love you with all my heart.

Mama hasn’t slept in three days so I give you hugs and kisses so we can nap for three hours until your next feeding.

Love,

Mama

Happy Mother’s Day!!!
