Outside My Window…it is pouring down rain. I absolutely love it. The other night while sitting on the comfy big blue couch my husband started talking about how Miss Sam always wanted to run and play in the rain when she was little. It’s not often he looks back and it came as a surprise that this memory was special to him.
I am thankful….for the rain….I even wrote about it in my post Why I Love Rainy Days.
From the kitchen… steak, baked potatoes and corn on the cob is on the menu for an early dinner. Breakfast??? Well, Mr. John and I are going to go out for breakfast once the rain lets up (and he gets out of bed…snore…snore).
I am creating…our Family Disaster Supply Kit now that we are into Hurricane Season.
From the learning rooms…We are now in summer vacation mode. This means only Math and Science are on the daily schedule. Reading is a given as Miss Sam reads every day for sheer enjoyment anyway. Last week I found a Project Wild K-12 Activity Guide at our local thrift shop. Considering that Miss Sam’s major is Zoology it is quite a treasure!! I hope to incorporate some of the projects into some summer fun.
I am going to…begin posting family photos on my Flickr site. You can also access it on my sidebar.
I am reading…Widow of the South by Robert Hicks. It is an awesome and compelling book. Although I have a few more Civil War books I want to read:
- Enemy Women by Paulette Jiles
- The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara
I generally like to read classics over the summer (with of course the occasional trashy beach novel thrown in…I’m not THAT much of a nerd):
- The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand (a re-read)
- Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky (a re-read)
- Mansfield Park by Jane Austen (a new read)
- Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy (a new read)
- The Lord of The Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien (a new read)
- Roots by Alex Haley (a new read)
- War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy (a new read)
- Of Human Bondage by W. Somerset Maugham (a new read)
- The Odyssey by Homer ( a re-read)
- Little Women by Louisa May Alcott (a re-read)
Don’t be impressed – the likelihood that I will finish ALL of these this summer is NILL but I certainly have enough books to keep me entertained.
Now about that trashy beach novel….any suggestions?????
I am hoping…to continue sorting through my professional photos and set up my webpage this afternoon.
Around the house..dust, dust, everywhere!!!!
One of My Favorite Things…is doing this Daybook. I can’t believe I have been so remiss in keeping it up to date.
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Weekend:
- Reading
- Scrapbooking
- Web Page Design
- No housework
Here is a picture thought I am sharing…

Today I am grateful for: the circumstances that developed which provided the incentive for me to research continuing my education.

so proud to hear of your thoughts on your continuing education…. Go for it!!!!
Trashy beach reading…anything by Dorthea Benton Frank
Love your list, some of them I’ve read others I want to. I’ve read Tolkien 3-4 times through now, but I just can’t get into it right now. I’m going to find something else I think.
Great book list. I’ve got a pile started myself.
I’m hoping we have a mild storm season this year. I’m tired of hurricanes.
Good for you for getting your hurricane preparedness kit together. Eleven years as a Floridian, and one who suffered through six weeks of no power and water during Charley, Frances, and Jeanne in 2004, and I have yet to assemble that kit.
Beach reads: have you ever read anything by Mary Kay Andrews? Fast reading and fairly trashy…you could get through a book in a day or less and laugh your head off the entire time!
