The weather in my neck of the woods:
Sunny but not too hot yet ~ perfect for going out and transplanting some flowers I bought last week for the backyard.
A simple pleasure:
Drinking my morning cup of Cattle Dog coffee. I love it so much I make sure I have enough beans at home to make it through the week. My favorites are Nicaragua Decaf and Sumatra Decaf. I can’t wait to try their new flavored decafs.
I am thankful:
That I have such a wonderful friend that will give up three hours of her day to hold my hand while I get a temporary crown put on. How awesome is that?
From the kitchen:
I have been craving salads this week. So as my family indulge themselves with their favorite foods (corndogs and pizza) I have been enjoying all combinations of salad/chicken strips/cheese/peppers/tortilla strips. I LOVE tortilla strips on my salads!
I am continuing to work on:
My photography website. If you haven’t been there please take a peek and let me know what you think.
My backyard cottage garden.
My scrapbooking. I just picked up over 100 photos from Walgreens. They had their 4th of July special of ten cents a print for quantities over fifty. I only order prints when they have this special. Several books I have lined up to work on:
Sam’s everyday scrapbook
College scrapbook
Heritage scrapbook
Father-in-law’s memorial scrapbook
Pet scrapbook
John’s Army scrapbook
My Army scrapbook
Good thing that Hobby Lobby has lots of weekly specials and coupons!!!!!
From the learning rooms:
Sam is supposed to be continuing to study Earth Science. However, the lazy days of summer have grabbed ahold to us and about all we are accomplishing here is READING. Reading is a good thing.
Sam has been reading the enthralling series Maximum Ride by James Patterson. It is a series written for young adults.
I am reading:
I just finished Sullivan’s Island last night. A FABULOUS book!! After reading two chick lit books in a row, I am READY to sink my teeth into either:
Life So Far by Betty Friedan ~ I found this for $1.00 at a thrift shop in the bigger city yesterday.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey ~ I show this movie EVERY semester in my Introduction to Psychology class ~ I know EVERY line by heart. However, I have heard that the book is totally different from the movie so I am ready to check it out. ~ I got it for about two bucks with my coupons and educator’s discount at Borders.
In my bedside basket waiting to be read (still):
Crime and Punishment by Doestoevsky
Alive by Piers Paul Read
On my TV:
Big BrotherĀ has started!!! Yippee!!!!
Mental ~ this show is just absolutely fabulous. Once the First Season is on CD I am going to purchase it to show in my pschology class.
Devotional/Scripture Readings/Key Verses:
Acts16:15
When she and the members of her household were baptized, she invited us to her home. “If you consider me a believer in the Lord,” she said, “come and stay at my house.” And she persuaded us.
Lydia practically begged for the opportunity to host Paul and Silas in her home. Rather than seeing the men as a burden and their presence as a disruption of her family and business routine. Lydia laid out the welcome mat. The notion of hospitality is related to the word “hospital”. In other words, we practice hospitality when we generously and cordially throw open the doors of our homes to care for others. In hospitality, we nurture, strengthen, and serve. The result is that others find physical, spiritual, and emotional help. When they leave us, they are healthier and more whole than when they came.
Is this your practice?
Is your home a “hospital” for hurting or needy souls?

A picture thought I’m sharing:

This photo was taken by Mr. John yesterday while fishing out in the Gulf. These are all the boats “scalloping“. I believe I see Susan and her family out there!!!!!
Be sure to check out our family photo page. I LOVE the shot featured there.
What does your Daybook look like?

Tortilla strips on my salad…Hobby Lobby…I love ‘em both! No HL anywhere near me, however.
You’re a fan of Big Brother! That is my favorite reality TV show! We’re so hooked on it at this house that Showtime channel is ordered during Big Brother season ONLY!!
I love the idea of a backyard cottage garden and would love to spend time there. Living in the city we have a small back yard in which I’ve planted flowers to go with the one magnolia tree and the four crepe myrtle bushes. I put planter boxes all around the railing of the deck – but it still won’t count as any kind of actual garden!
I long to be out of the city again!
Hope you have a great week!
Great reads!
