My Daybook ~ July 20

Photobucket

The weather in my neck of the woods:

Sunny ~ hot ~ humid ~ with a chance of rain. Staying in today until it’s time to leave for the bigger city to teach.

A simple pleasure:

Spending a Sunday afternoon working on my scrapbook projects and then snuggling into freshly washed bed linens and reading a chick lit novel.

I am thankful:

That there is a possibility that I will be teaching four classes this Fall. I am also thankful for my counseling job. It is my belief these are two areas where God has established my mission. I would not be in these positions if it were not for His divine intervention.

From the kitchen:

This weekend has been pretty much a “catch as catch can” weekend. I did make chips and dips and burgers but not much else.

I am working on:

All those recipes (57 to be exact) that are filed away in my recipe bookmarks.

I am committing to take at least one a week and try it out. The one for this week will be:

Sesame Ginger Teriyaki Chicken Burger Loaf

I did something similar last fall. You can check out some great recipes in From My Kitchen.

From the learning rooms:

I have over 55 learning resources (downloaded over the past two years from this awesome site The Homeschool Freebie of the Day)  in my homeschool bookmarks.

My goal is to work through these fabulous resources ~ one a day.

Today Miss Sam will be working through: Air! An Introduction to Our Amazing Atmosphere.

I am reading:

Life So Far by Betty Friedan ~ I found this for $1.00 at a thrift shop in the bigger city yesterday. (This book is so intellectually intense that I have had to take a break 3/4 of the way through to read the next book).

Savannah Breeze by Mary Kay Andrews ~ This is the second book of the Weezie and BeBe saga. The first one was Savannah Blues, which was just as fun!

In my bedside basket waiting to be read:

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey ~ I show this movie EVERY semester in my Introduction to Psychology class ~ I know EVERY line by heart. However, I have heard that the book is totally different from the movie so I am ready to check it out. ~ I got it for about two bucks with my coupons and educator’s discount at Borders.

STILL THERE:

Crime and Punishment by Doestoevsky

Alive by Piers Paul Read

On my TV:

Big Brother has started!!! Yippee!!!!

Update on Big Brother ~ I absolutely loathe just about every participant in this season’s BB. It seems as though none of them have even one personality trait that is endearing. They are annoying, crass, and just downright yukky.

So why am I still watching it??? It’s fun to analyze the game play with my husband.

Mental ~ this show is just absolutely fabulous. Once the First Season is on CD I am going to purchase it to show in my psychology class.

Update on Mental ~ This show continues to delve into the complexities of the human mind and the professionals who look beyond the  stereotypical. It continues to expand my mind.

 Devotional/Scripture Readings/Key Verses:

In October I purchased a new bible. It was the Life Application Study Bible (I wrote about the discovery of this wonderful bible here).

Since October I have been reading the New Testament. It has been an awesome and enlightening read!! However, I was getting itchy to start reading the Old Testament. And yay ~ I am finally there!

What I love about the Life Application Bible is that it has an amazing amount of information regarding God’s Word ~ biographies, historical facts, outlines, and the list goes on. One of the features I like is The Blueprint ~ an outline that is designed specifically from an application point of view for each book of the bible.

The outline for Genesis (abbreviated for this blog) was very compelling:

The Story of Creation: At times others may treat us disrespectfully. But we can be certain of our dignity and worth because we have been created in the image of God.

The Story of Adam: Through Adam and Eve we learn about the destructive power of sin and its bitter consequences.

The Story of Noah: Just as God protected Noah and his family, he still protects those who are faithful to him today.

The Story of Abraham: Abraham remained faithful to God. His example teaches us what it means to live a life of faith.

The Story of Isaac: Like Isaac, we must learn to put God’s will ahead of our own.

The Story of Jacob: Although Jacob made many mistakes, his hard work teaches us about living a life of service for our Lord.

The Story of Joseph: Through the life of Joseph, we learn that suffering, no matter how unfair, can develop strong character in us.

Taken from The Life Application Study Bible

I wish that I had the funds to provide this bible to all people who are thirsting for God’s Word.

    Danielle,
You’ll have to give a virtual lecture on scrapbooking or maybe you already have and I just need to look in your archives.

I think I read a lot, but I’m impressed that Dostoevsky is on your “To Read” list. I’m reading this unbelievable book, Ecotherapy, which I’m going to review tomorrow. It has put everything in perspective for me.

First of all, you KNOW I love your Daybook, right? You inspire me in ways I cannot list. I am praying about the adjunct thing…I really need to pursue that avenue this year and see what possibilities are out there for me. Hope you’re well.
