My Daybook ~ August 10

Photobucket

The weather in my neck of the woods:

Hot and humid. However, I can “feel” the shift in the position of the sun as we near towards the end of summer. I began to notice the difference yesterday morning.

A simple pleasure:

Working on all my miscellaneous projects at my own leisurely pace.

I am thankful:

For websites like Cutest Blog on the Block. It’s where I found my new header. As soon as I can figure out how to access the credit template on my blog I will be putting their link in for my header design. Go check them out if you haven’t already.

From the kitchen:

Still not much going on there. I am off all week ~ therefore my intent is to take some time to experiment with some of those recipes in my bookmarks.

I am working on:

  • De-cluttering our home (again)
  • Turning our formal living room into a library/game room
  • All my scrapbooks
  • Course material for the Fall Semester

From the learning rooms:

Sam doesn’t officially start school until after labor day. This will allow me some time to acclimate myself to the four course schedule I have for the fall.

She is however continuing to work on her required reading.

I am reading:

I just finished reading Shem Creek by Dorothea Benton Frank. Of course…it was thoroughly enjoyable but it was not as captivating a read as the previous ones I had read by her. Perhaps I will wait for Return to Sullivan’s Island to come out in paperback before I read her again. I may just be suffering from “author burnout”.

I started reading David Baldacci’s novel “First Family” last night. Needless to say it has been difficult to put down. I didn’t realize it was fourth in a series so that allows for some catching up!

Devotional/Scripture Readings/Key Verses:

Genesis 24: 12-21

Then he prayed,  “O Lord, God of my master Abraham, give me success today, and show kindness to my master Abraham. See, I am standing beside this spring, and the daughters of the townspeople are coming out to draw water. May it be that when I say to a girl ‘Please let down your jar that I may have a drink’, and she says, ‘Drink, and I’ll water your camels too’ – let her be the one you have chosen for your servant Isaac. By this I will know that you have shown kindness to my master.”

Before he had finished praying, Rebekah came out with her jar on her shoulder. She was the daughter of Bethuel son of Milcah, who was the wife of Abraham’s brother Nahor. The girl was very beautiful, a virgin; no man had ever lain with her. She went down to the spring, filled her jar and came up again.

The servant hurried to meet her and said, “Please give me a little water from your jar.”

“Drink, my lord, ” she said, and quickly lowered the jar to her hands and gave him a drink. After she had given him a drink, she said, “I’ll draw water for your camels too, until they have finished drinking.” So she quickly emptied her jar into the trough, ran back to the well to draw more water, and drew enough for all his camels. Without saying a word, the man watched her closely to learn whether or not the Lord had made his journey successful.

Rebekah had physical beauty, but the servant was looking for a sign of inner beauty.

Appearance is important to us, and we spend time and money improving it. But how much effort do we put into developing our inner beauty? Patience, kindness, and joy are the beauty treatments that help us become truly lovely – on the inside.

Rebekah’s servant spirit was clearly demonstrated as she willingly and quickly drew water for Eliezer and his camels. The pots used for carrying water were large and heavy. A thirsty camel drinks a lot of water – up to 25 gallons after a week’s travel.

Seeing Rebekah go to work, Eliezer knew this was a woman with a heart for doing far more than the bare minimum.

Do you have a servant spirit? When asked to help or when you see a need, go beyond the minimum.

I too have felt the shift of the sun. Oh it makes me happy! I am trying to remember what I thought of Shem Creek, but it’s been too long.

I like the scripture that you referenced here. We do spend so much time on how we look to the world that we forget that when we are beautiful on the inside it will pour out to our outward appearance.

Wow! You are busy. Sounds like it will be a while before we can get together! I have felt a touch of Fall’s breath in the morning when I feed horses. Just a feeling, but a reminder of what’s to come. We will get through this hot summer and it will get cooler one day!

We have been working on decluttering for the past two weeks. I’m happy to report it has really paid off. I found a free store to donate a lot of stuff to also!
