My Daybook ~ September 7

Photobucket

The weather in my neck of the woods:

Hot and sunny…with a hint of fall in the air. You gotta be a Floridian to notice.

A simple pleasure:

John fishing ~ Sam at her cousin’s house swimming ~ me scrapbooking.

I am thankful:

That Dunkin’ Donuts makes a decaf iced caramel latte to purrrrrrfection.

From the kitchen:

Nothing. Today is Labor Day. I DO NOT labor on Labor Day.

I am working on:

Maintaining my priorities.

From the learning rooms:

Sam started High School last week….. homeschool style. Her subjects this semester are:

English (she is reading The Giver) – Math (we are in 8th grade review mode right now) – History (we had American History last year, I am thinking of switching to World History this semester…but until I decide Sam is reading Howard Zinn’s A Young People’s History of the United States) – Art (Sam is studying Monet and she will be doing some impressionistic art this week with water color pencils…I may even try it myself) – Life Management ( topics for the next week include self-esteem/self-confidence/self-concept) – PE (aka TREADMILL).

I am reading:

The Lord of the Rings by J R R Tolkien. I attempted to read it several times in college but never quite made it all the way through.

Devotional/Scripture Readings/Key Verses:

Exodus 17:2

So they quarreled with Moses and said, “Give us water to drink.” Moses replied, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you put the Lord to the test?”

Again the people complained about their problem instead of praying.

Some problems can be solved by careful thought or by rearranging our priorities.

Some can be solved by discussion and good counsel, but some problems can be solved only by prayer.

We should make a determined effort to pray when we feel like complaining, because complaining only raises our level of stress.

Prayer quiets our thoughts and emotions and prepares us to listen.

Oh, I do hope you make it through LotR! It is my favorite and I’ve re-read it many times. I think Tolkien was a genuine genius. I even have the audio version, which was read by Rob Inglis, my all-time favorite narrator. His voices are incredible. I have the audio version of The Hobbit, also read by him. He’s mesmerizing!

Gosh, I’m so behind on blog-reading!!

I had to laugh at the “hint of fall in the air” comment! I must be far enough south of you that I’m not feeling it…however, the sharper angles of the sunlight do remind me that the days are getting shorter and I do begin to think of apple cider and pumpkin pie.

Good luck with “The Lord of the Rings.” I tried and tried, but just couldn’t finish it.

    Love the photo!
