The weather in my neck of the woods:
A beautiful fall day!!! I am looking forward to continuing to work on my backyard side garden today.
A simple pleasure:
Going to the Book Gallery in Gainesville. Although I am easily overwhelmed when I walk in, it doesn’t take long for me to want to spend all day there.
I am thankful:
That when the fall schedule of homeschool, counseling, and teaching began that I made the commitment to leave Fridays free of “work”. Although this has been difficult to do, I am proud to say that I have managed thus far to keep my Fridays “work” free.
For Miss Sam’s recent decision to re-establish her relationship with her grandparents (my parents).
From the kitchen:
Sam has been requesting her favorite Frosted Molasses cookies for MONTHS now. If I can find the buttermilk (it seems as though that is a ‘seasonal’ item) I hope to have my kitchen smelling like Fall this afternoon!!!
Creative Corner:
Looking forward to:
- updating my photo website
- subscribing to Ancestory.com
- scrapbooking
- playing in Photoshop Elements so I can update my photo blog
From the learning rooms:
Miss Sam started Florida Virtual School this week. She is taking World History, Algebra1, Life Management and Biology. Miss Sam says it is too early to tell how she will like it…but I LOVE it!!! Now instead of my time being taken up with working on creating her curriculum….my time now is spent actually working hands on with her assignments…and I LOVE that!!!
I am not reading:
The Gunslinger by Stephen King. I just could not get into it.
I am now reading:
The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown. It is AWESOME!!!!!!
Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris. What a fun series!!!!!!! (may be a little R-rated for some readers.) Very easy reading. Looking forward to reading more about Sookie Stackhouse in the next book Living Dead in Dallas.
The Right Words at the Right Time by Marlo Thomas. I wanted to buy this book when it first came out but I resisted the temptation. I was rewarded by finding a BRAND NEW copy at a thrift shop for thirteen cents!!! Go me. It is a great book!!!
On My Mind:
- Going to my sister-in-law’s first triathlon tomorrow
- Attending an acoustic guitar concert this weekend by a student and his girlfriend
- Thinking about going back to our old church in the big city
Hearth and Home:
I swore I was not going to go into the attic this year to bring down ALL the fall decorations. But I just can’t help myself. Will be heading up there after Miss Sam’s “virtual” teacher conferences this afternoon.
I laugh:
I never thought when I was in high school that almost 40 years (!!!!) later that I will be giving and receiving”gifts” with many high school friends as we “farm” our virtual “farms” aka Farmville and FarmTown.
How funny!!!
And no, I am NOT addicted. Although I did have Miss Sam harvest my “grapes” for me last night so they would not wilt while I was sleeping.
No, I am NOT addicted!!!
A Picture thought I’m sharing:

Joann is one of those high school friends I mentioned earlier!!!!
Devotional/Scripture Readings/Key Verses
I am finding that the book of Deuteronomy is one of my favorite books of the bible.
Deuteronomy 8:11-20
Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day.
Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down, and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied, then your heart will become proud and you will forget the Lord you God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
He led you through the vast and dreadful desert, that thirsty and waterless land, with its venomous snakes and scorpions. He brought you water out of hard rock. He gave you manna to eat in the desert, something your fathers had never known, to humble and to test you so that in the end it might go well with you.
You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.” But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today.
If you ever forget the Lord your God and follow other gods and worship and bow down to them, I testify against you today that you will surely be destroyed. Like the nations the Lord destroyed before you, so you will be destroyed for not obeying the Lord your God.
In times of plenty, we often take credit for our prosperity and become proud that our own hard work and cleverness have made us rich.
It is easy to get so busy collecting and managing wealth that we push God right out of our lives.
But is is God who gives us everything we have, and it is God who asks us to manage it for him.

Don’t you just love our weather?! It’s still a bit warm, but at least the humidity isn’t horrible.
Nope, I’m not addicted to farmtown and farmville, either. Not in the least.
I buy buttermilk year round at Walmart. Where is the Book Gallery? In the mall? I’ve never seen it/been there. Good luck on the church shopping. I’m personally sick of it!
Can’t help but ask. Why couldn’t Sam make the cookies?
Virtual School sounds fabulous I would have lovee to do that with my kids.
Isn’t FB strange and fun and weird all at the same time? LOL I’m so glad you have found the FL virtual school. it will free up SO much time. I should have thought to mention it. My BIL is the administrator and a teacher for them. Today its gray in GA, chilly…the leaves are really changing this week. I plan to do online work..shop…clean…not much of anything planned. which is really nice.
Enjoy!
I hope Virtual School is a success! I sounds like a great plan all the way around.
The Harris series is extremely popular and it just doesn’t appeal to me.
Maybe someday I’ll read one and see how it goes. Glad your liking it.
After reading your daybook, I need to take a nap. Either, that means you’re way busier than I am and it’s a good thing (for you), or I’m less busy and it’s a good thing for me!

Keep us posted how the virtual school works. Just starting our homeschool journey, so I am always interested in what others are doing.
Your concept of taking Friday off has me thinking…I think I need to schedule some time in to do a few things that I really enjoy but haven’t found time for.
